Dr Sir.
At the request of Several friends & highly respectable young men, I wish to make a few enquiries relative to your Republic. First, what lands are sold for, and from whom is the title obtained &c. 2d. are the titles of those who purchased before Texas declared herself Independent, good. 3d. In case persons here wished to settle or purchase lands there, could it be done without coming to your country 4th will Texas belong to the United States, or will the citizens who have and I trust will be able to gain & maintain their Independence be a Republic by themselves. An answer to the above enquiries will much oblige myself & those who have requested me to write, I together with a number of other young men wish to purchase in Texas & intend to move there in time. We are gratified to hear of the Splendid Victory on the 21 April, over the Mexicans by the Texians, there seems to be more good feeling & hope for the cause of the Texians in the United States than for our own settlers in Florida. As soon as the distracted situation of affairs in your Republic will permit be pleased lo answer this letter, and in the mean time I remain Your obt & Humble Servant Hon David G. Burnet W. M. Patterson
