appears he had been, was such as to win the respect and confidence of all his associates-and that at Goliad he had been made a first lieutenant and would <loubtless receive a commission better fitting his deserts in a short time-:-AII this detail my dear Sir may appear tiresome to you, but to us you will reccollect that it ralles to a beloved brother-And I mention them to you for the purpose of aiding you in the enquiry which I beg of you lo make in regard to his fate- If you will enquiry and ascertain wheter he was under Fanning, when, how & where he fell you will lay me and our family under an obligation which I solemnly promise you faithfully to repay-If as we fear he fell in the massacer of Fanning's men, the details of his career and final fate will give us at least a mournful consolation, and let us know where his ashes rest- I have had the honour of acting as chairman of the Texian committe of this city and I confess the uncertain though probable fate of my brother has urged me on. We shall send to the Texian agency of New Orleans, per S. B. Farmer which will leave here on Saturday or Sunday next Seventy well armed & equipped men ucler the command of Capt Allen-We have paid every attention to their comfort in the way of provisions and have given them enough for 90 days-we commend them to your care, and trust the agency there will send them without delay to Galveston bay-And I also trust that you will make enquiry with regard lo my brother Richard, and advise me,
