John Linn, had eommunicalcd lo Mr. Carbajal, thal their force, composed of eighteen hundred men, was coming wilh lhc ohjecl of attacking lhe lroops lhat were in Goliad; that on seeing lhis, lhe deponenl remained in Guadalupe until yesterday, when al eigh l o'clock at nighl he commenced his march to this place, lo communicate lo lhe commander-in-chief, thal the largest porlion of Lhe enemy's force had passed the river, and were encamped on Lhe edge of lhe woods; lhat by one of the Americans who had arrived al Lhe farm of the father of the speaker, he was informed Lhal Mr. Carbajal was made prisoner by them, and would probably be shol, inasmuch as he had ordered the deponen l, as courier, lo general Sanla Anna: Lhey also exacted from Lhe father of the speaker, Lhat he should deliver them up, because they knew Lhat he was lhe courier, and that in case he did ·not do so, lhey would destroy lhe farm; Lhal on his return to this place, he met on the Colelo fifteen or lwenty men encamped al Encinal, that he also gave information to hi.s Excellency, the said commander-in-chief, thal the American who spoke with his father, told him, that in the nighl of this date they were coming to attack this place; that the papers and passport of which he has spoken at the commencemcnl of his declaralion, are lhose which he now exhibits lo the captain and commissioner; which I, the secretary, certify, were received, composed of a lelter sealed and direcled to his Excellency the president general: a little piece of paper, the sixteenth of a sheel, and a passport, all countersigned by me; the originals of which the said commissioned officer ordered lo be inserted in this teslirnony; that he has nothing more lo say, that what he has said is lrue, according lo the oath made, and this his declaration being read to him, he affirmed and ratified il, expressing thal he was twenty-six years old, and nol knowing how lo write, he signed it with a cross, the commissioned officer signing wilh Lhe present secretary.-Mariano Rodriguez.-ln my presence, Manuel Sanchez.
