I, Mariano Rodriguez, captain of the army, and aid-de-camp to the general of the second brigade of the first division of the army of operations against Texas-certify: that by virtue of a verbal order of Don Vicente Filisola, commander-in-chief of the said army, to take the declarations of two individuals of confidence, who were sent lo the place where Don Antonio Lopez de Santa Anrrn, president of the republic, was held priso11cr, with the object of delivering lo him some private papers, and for this purpose, his Excellency, the said commander-in-chief, named as secretary, sub-lieutenant Don Manuel Sanchez, who, bei11g present, said that he accepted, and offered, under his word of honor lo preserve secrecy and fidelity in whatever I aclc·:d; and i11 order that it may be evident, signed it wilh me, i11 the town of Goliad, 011 the 25th May, l8;l6.-Mariano Rudrigucz.-Manuel Sanchc:t..
