i\'lr David Burnett President of Texas Sir

As a member of the Texian Executive and financial committee's of this place I have advised you to produce a concert of action in favour of the great cause in which you are engaged; it may not be exactly in accordance with eliquell to address the head of a Government in this way but the recollection that you arc an old townsman and that in this important struggle we all have an identity of feeling will I hope be sufficient excuse- We generally here are deeply interested in your success but our efforls are in some measure paralised by the strange contradictions that attend reports from Texas; it is all important that your government furnish to the committees of this place or N. Orleans circumstantial details of the great even ts that take place in the progress of the war, for the tongue of scandal is busy in drawing insidious comparisons against all that comes from you that is not official the Ohio & Missippi are the great thorough fares for communications from the South lo the North al this Season of the year and all interest is fell in news throu this channel-Yesterday I saw a letter from a gentleman in Kenawha in Virginia slating that 200 men from the mountains in their vicinity would be in this place (per Steam Boat Logan) in a few days and requesting us to furnish them with arms for their use in Texas; we have agreed lo do so-on the 5th of June Capt James Allen will leave here with 75 men well armed and equiped with Provisions for 90 days some pains has hen taken in filling out this corps; they will be armed with yeaguers of US Rifles, the quarter master of this district having agreed lo lend them for 1 year lo the emigrants going lo Texas you have no doubt seen ere this Capt Serman, since he left we have fitted out Lieut Stansbury with 60 odd men and about twelve hundred dollars; we have a letter from him dated in N. Orleans on the 10th of this month slating that he leaves on the morrow with sixty three men in fine health and spirits in adition lo all this we sent you two iron four Pounders last March which we hope will reach you in time lo do some service-
