Dear sir
In a11 hour I shall have finished my business in Texas. Thal is I am able lo leave without incumbrance either pecuniary or politically. I have agreed lo go to Washington [torn]of the objects, Some difficulties have taken place since l saw you & some changes in my instructions from what I then anticipated. I believe however Lhey are substantially the same-tho' in a very awkward form. & such as I would not act on apart from my personal knowledge of those with whom J have to act. The objects of my mission I hope will prove successful & this is a consumalion most devoulfully lo be wished for. We are in a deplorable condition pecuniary morally & intellectually! Yer( still hope all will be well. I shaJI return as soon as I can and would be a candidate for the next Congress but that the unsettled stale of the country would necessarily bring down concern upon any and absent. These considerations al tho' strongly urged now probably prevent my consint to be run. Genl Green is at Galveston, I do not know the number of men with him they are variously----------we shall soon know the facts. GenJ Sanla Ana it is said will soon be liberated. The changes in the Cabinet you will before this reaches you have learnt from other sources. I have nol time to say m9re than lo request thal you will write lo me soon and often directed to Washington. Rest assured that you can command my services in any thing that honor will permit & ----------and is more conscious that Gent Rusk would ask them 011 no other terms than J .A. Collinsworth Genl T.J.
