E. S. Ayer llegue a esta ciudad con una parte de las fuerzas de esta Division, y al tiempo de estarlo verificando hoy la restante, ture aviso de q. los enemigos intentan un clesembarco en el braso de Santiago, estando saliendo de Nueva Orleans, con este objeto, el clia veinte del corriente siete embaracacioncs Vcleras y una de vapor. Al momento dispuse q. doscientos y cincuenta hombres volvieran a pasar el rio y se dirigieran sin dilacion a dicho punto para el q. yo mismo me encaminare tan pronto como halla despachado esle pliego. · V. E. no debe dudar q. animada toda esta tropa del buen espiritu que ya otras ocasiones le he comunicado, el enemigo quedara escarmentado si Uegare a poner en practica su temeraria empresa, y asi mismo, q. por mi parte tomare cuantas medidas me parescan conducentes pa. poner el Brazo de Santiago al abrigo ahora y despues de toda azechanza de los Colonos y de cuantos los ayudan. Sirvase V.E. poner lo q. antecede en el conocimiento <lei E. S. Presidente interino, aceptando con este motibo las seguridades de mi distinguido aprecio y respetuosas consideraciones. I had the honour to address you by the Invincible under dale 14,18,19 & 21st. naming the purchase of the Brig Pocket & the payment of damages lo the officers and Crew. The arrest of Capt. Brown on a civil suit for the value of the Cargo, bailing him, & the necessity of securing such papers as will preven la judgement against the Government. Duplicates of which I shall forward if time will permit by this vessel, if not by the next. We have heard since the sailing of Gen Green that one of his vessels was in difficulty, hut presume she has continue.cl her voyage. We have rec'd hy the Brig Urchin an Invoice 290 Bhls Bread &c from the
