To the Honble Slephen F. Austin Sir .

I am instructed by the President and cabinet to say lo you, that inasmuch as important changes have recently occurred, it has been deemed necessary lo dispatch lo Washington two commissioners for the purpose of representing this Govt. there.-It was conceived mosl aclvisable to select gentlemen who are now in this country because they could he more fully informed of the views of the Govt. ancl the wishes and interests of the people. These gentlemen are Peter W. Grayson & James Collinsworth Esq. to whom you will be pleased lo communicate any valuable information which you may possess, affording them at the same time every possible facility in consummating the objects of their mission. In recalling you the President and Cabinet are not unmindful of your disinterested efforts in the service of your country but have acted in the connection that at this crisis of affairs commissioners fresh from Texas would, from their moniutinate knowledge of her present wants and policy be able to rcpresen t her more efficiently at Washington. The confidence which your country ----- in you is entirely unimpaired and you will be received with heartfelt greetings of gratitude upon your return.
