religious freedom, is one of the highest rewards which can be conferred on the soldiers of Liberty. Resolved,-ThaL the citizens of New Orleans hold Samuel Houslon, Lhe Commander in Chief of Lhe army of Texas, in the highest estimation for the skill, courage, and prudence, with which he has throughout conducted the war of his country's Inde- pendence. Resolved thcreforc,-That an invitation to a public dinner be tendered on the part of this meeting lo Gen. Houston and his staff, as a sligh l testimony of the admiration they feel for one, whose sound judgment, and personal gallantry have contributed so much to the cause of liberty, and shed an undying lustre on the arms of our sister Republic. Resolved,-That a Committee of twelfe be appointed to carry in to effect the foregoing resolutions. Upon motion, the chairman appointed the following gentlemen.
