Dear Sir,
The Gentleman who will hand you this is Frederick Sawyer Esqr. of North Carolina, and who have been a practicing Attorney in New Orleans for some time. He came out to this place in the Steam Boat Ocean, with Genl. Green in capacity of aid, I believe; knowing Mr. Sawyer, as I do, to be a young man of finished Education, and talents, and of one of the first families in North Carolina; besides a young man of great personaJ and moral worth, I have advised him to visit Velasco; thinking, if you have no private Secretary, you might stand in need of his services. I think him just the man for you. If you need one of his talents to attend to confidential or other business. I take much pleasure in introducing Major Sawyer to your acquaintance, because under any circumstances, whether in or out of your employ, you will find him a Gentleman whose acquaintance you will be pleased with; and one on whom you may place the most implicit confidence. I hope he may be retained near your person. Any civilities or friendship shown Major Sawyer shall be duly appreciated by

At a large and highly respectable meeting, held at Bank's Arcade on Saturday evening, for the purpose of manifesting the respect and confidence entertained by our fellow citizens to the distinguished services of Gen. Houston and his staff, Maunsell White was called to the chair, and 0. P. Jackson appointed Secretary. Randall Hunt Esq. addressed the meeting in a highly spirited and eloquent manner, prefatory to introducing the following resolutions, which seconded by W. Christy were unanimously adopted.
