To Major General Sam 1-louston Commander-in-Chief of the Tcxian Army

Dear Sir: - I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your kin<l note, of the 3rd inst. accompanied by that of the officers of the gallant army, you are so fortunate as to command. Praying you to present lo me, the Saddle and Bridle, taken at the battle of San Jacinto and said to have belonged to Gen. Cos, of the Mexican Army, as a mark of their gratitude and esteem for the services which they are pleased lo think I have rendered the cause of Texas; this Trophy, which has been remlered truly interesting, to me, in consequence of the flattering and gratifying manner in which it has been presented, has also been received. If I have rendered any essential service to the cause which has been so nobly sustained Ly yourself, and your gallant little band of patriots, I do most sincerely assure you that I have been more than rewarded by the delicate manner in which the present in question was voted lo me on the field of battle, by those who perilled their lives in the most daring manner on that field, in the sacred cause of civil and religious liberty. Be pleased, Sir, Lo convey to your officers, the thanks of one who will never fail, duly to appreciate such honors as they have spontaneously bestowed upon him; accept for yourself the thanks and congratulations of your old companion in arms, such as a soldier alone can give, and none but a soldier can appreciate.
