(3159) [HOUSTON to SUBLETT)
New Orleans May 25th 1836
Col Sublette Sir
I am now at this place, whither I have had lo come in consequence of a wound which I received in the action of the 21st Inst. From the severity of the wound it was utterly impossible for me to leave Camp by any other than a water conveyance; I have not been able to sit up ten minute at a time since I received the wound, the pain being excrutiating. My wound has improved greatly in a few days. My general health is as good as I could expect. I am excessively anxious to return to Texas, and that I may be enabled to proceed so soon as I shaU be able to leave with any degree of comfort. I may proceed from this place immediately to Nashville as I can go to that place by water without much inconvenience even in my present situation. If however my wound should heal as quickly as I flatter myself it will my anxiety to join the army will not permit me to remain from it longer than until I shall be able Lo sit a horse-in that event I shall go in a boat to Nachitoches, then to your house, and wish lo know if a conveyance could be obtained to carry me .to Nacogdoches. You have doubtless heard of the particulars of the battle. News arrived here this morning from Texas of cheering character. The enemy are flying before us. Our course is onward. You will please to attend to Willis & my horses. I set great store by my horses. I would not take a thousand dollars for my horses. [Sam Houston] (3160) [BURNET to COLLINSWORTH AND GRAYSON]
