Apr 21 1836 to June 3 1836 - PTR, Vol. 6

The firm of McKinney & Williams may be mentioned as among those of the character alluded to, supported, as they inform us by your credit and responsibility in New Orleans. In respect to them I have to say, that you will prepare to pay, out of the funds you may realise by this Commission, all such claims of theirs, whether for past or future advances as may be duly authenticated by the proper authorities of this Government, and directed to be paid by an order signed by the President and countersigned by the Secretary of the Treasury. There are other claims of a similar character which it is probable we may order to be paid out of the same fund. Until further advised, you will be careful in the sale of lands not to exceed the quantity of Five hundred thousand acres; And in making sales to this extent, you will exercise your best judgement as to the terms with purchasers for cash in hand, or negotiable bills; and as to the best price you can procure over and above the minimum price of fifty cents per acre. I have to observe that if you have made any disposition of land, under a previous power to sell three hundred thousand acres, you will consider the quantity so disposed of, as so much to be deducted from the quantity of five hundred thousand acres, herein directed to be sold; and if you have made no dispositions under the previous power, to the end of simplifying your proceedings you will be pleased to consider that power as suspended by this Commission which it is hoped will be sufficient for the purposes in view. Respectfully Yours &c. David G. Burnet Wm. H. Jack Secy. of State [3155) [CARLISLE to MENEFEE] [Robert Carlisle, Marious, Perry County, Alabama, to John S. Menefee, Coxes Point, LaBaca Bay, Austin's Colony, May 25, 1836, desiring information about affairs in Texas, and discussing the troop of volunteers he is raising for service in Texas.] [3156) [DOMINGUEZ to the PUBLIC] · [Juan Jose Dominguez, San Luis Potosi, to the Public, May 25, 1836, as Governor of San Luis Potosi, announcing the capture of Santa Anna.]
