[3148) [GOROSTIZA to FORSYTH] Washington, May 24, 1836 The undersigned, envoy extraordinary and minister plenipotentiary of the Mexican republic, has the honor to address the honorable John Forsyth, Secretary of State of these United States, upon an affair the most serious and important, in his opinion, to the relations and interests of the two countries which has occurred since they have been united (cementados) by the firm bonds of equity, friendship, and mutual convenience. The undersigned, from what he has read and learnt respecting some of the late debates of the Senate, a11d particularly from the statements in the Intelligencer of this day, that a proposition of Mr. Walker's, with regard to the recognition of the independence of Texas, has been referred to the Committee of Foreign Affairs of that house, cannot but see, although with the utmost amazement, that measures are actually in progress for the said recognition,
