be boundless; and my desire is to employ them without restriction; for I know my duty, and I will fulfil it. Misfortune to the enemy of our country! The foreign foe will be vanquished; and the domestic excmplarily punished, if any such shall dare assist, in this sacred war of the country, the criminal desires of the Texian rebels. Friends: A momentary adversity should not discourage the constant protection of our rights. To you, soldiers-you who have proved the vicissitudes of fortune, to leave to the world and remembrance of virtue, honor and courage, and in invoking the Providence who rules the destiny of nations, march lo avenge God, your country and your president. Hon. Bailey Hardiman Dear Sir
You can hardly imagine the trouble and difficulties we are daily experiencing from the diversion of the funds from this Agency, in giving the check to McKinney, The absence of Col Triplet, and the Commissioners Austin, Archer & Wharton. Messrs Toby & Bro. had engaged to supply the wants of our Two Vessels the Brutus & Invincible, out of Funds, thal had been recd by him from some friends of the cause, and after the vessels had got their supplies & gone from the City, Bills, were presented from all quarters which he refused to pay, and we were then calld on but could not satisby some of them even by promising to pay as soon as the government should send us authority to obtain the Ten Thousand Dollars, or as soon as Col Triplet or Col Austin should arrive. The government having appointed Col Triplet the Genl agent and he not appearing at a time when most wanted is unaccountable. You will have to suffer innumerable privations which could have been preven led If all the Business of Government had been confined to this agency. as it is we shall have to suffer all the sneers of the Enemies of our cause untill some relief shall come.
