been inhumanly murdered by his order. it was him not us who made choise of the mode of warfare which he has been carrying on. and now let him abide by the consequences. our duty to ourselves to the struggling republican party in Mexico and to the sacred cause of liberty itself loudly demands that the Tyrant should die and that a public tribunal should pass the sentence of death upon him-to intimidate others who might attempt the same cause-I think I shall visit you in the course of the next year I long to see the scenes and friends of my childhood tell Mother & Sisters that I have not forgotten them but the idea of seeing them all once more has been the only consolation of years of toil & perplexities in a land of strangers if I am successful in my business one year longer & Texas is attached to the U States my fortune wilJ be made. the land I now possess at the Govt price of U. S. land would be worth upward of 20,000-1 expect in the course of the next year to obtain nearly as much more-You will not receive no more papers for some time as the printing office was burnt & the press was sunk in the river by the enemy but to remedy this I will write often if you will remind me by replying punchialy I remain your affectionate Brother Sam. Dear Sir,

An early acquaintance with the West Coast of Mexico and various excursions from the Pacific to the interior, having visited the City of Mexico in 1822, and Made Some observations as to the assailible points on that Sea Board, and the Sections of Country through which I extended my excursions, has since the Texian War commenced, been brought to my recollection, and aroused by the horrible cruelties perpetrated by the forces of Santa Anna I have reviewed the scenes of by gon days, in that Country and have formed an opinion, that a diversion highly, favorable lo the Cause of Texas might be made by a small Naval force employed on the West Coast of Mexico. Where a single ship of 20 guns under a judicious commander might create consternation and dismay
