Myrmidons & no hostile foot whether Indian or Mexican dare pollute our soil-Write me as soon as you receive this direct your letter to San Augustin Texas via Natchitoches care of Elisha Roberts Esq-who is my wifes [sic] father & will forward it to me where ever I am. I have a son born while on the road to this place 13th last month. I have named him Thomas after yourself & all the Thomas of our family. give my love to mother & all my sisters & Brothers tell Lewis I should like to hear from him by the way of a letter once more in seven years he has kept his promise finely-If you and Caleb do conclude to come to Texas I will give you as much land as you want for farms. I have upwards of 20,000 acres now & if times get better so that I shall feel safe in buying more I shall do so. there is no way that money can be laid out that it will yield so large a per cent DeslTuction has marked the path of the enemy villages and plantations have been destroyed by the despot & in a few more weeks would have executed his threat to make Texas a howling wilderness and wash out with the blood of the perfadious strangers every mark of civilization but he was checked midway in his dreadful career. few families have fallen into his hands. the scale has now turned in our favor the enemys force is concentrating at the alamo. a few weeks will decide the contest dreadful will be the revenge of the Texians should the enemy fight obstinately and be overcome at last. the battle of the 21st is but a prelude to a much more sanguinary one at that place where we obtained our victory last fall over Cos-and also here 180 of our bravest men were masacreed [sic] this spring. if the enemy stand out I predict will be fought one of the most bloody and sanguinary battles that ever has been fought in modern times the majority of the people of Texas have been left without a home some have lost everything they possessed such men will fight with desperation & a dreadful fate awates the enemy who may fall into their hands Santa anna himself is willing he says to acknowledge our independence provided we will never attach ourselves to the U States but this will not suit us it was for this object we declared our independence-A small party are in favor of setting Santa Anna at liberty on condition that he does as he promised viz-acknowledge our independence and get the U States govt to underwrite him. but I am opposed to this course of policy. the Tyrant is now in our power he richly deserves death and we ought to inflict it on him to avenge the brave and gallant spirits who have
