Apr 21 1836 to June 3 1836 - PTR, Vol. 6

I am under the neces.sity of closing and must say fareweU. From your affectionate husband, Abram Marshall May 19, 1836. Not having had the opportunity expected of sending the above, I now add that the Company has elected me their Commander, and I have been commissioned by the Government accordingly 1st Lieutenant, not having the required number to be entillcd lo a Captain. I have been very busy attending to the Company, calling them out lo suppress riots, and sitting upon Courts Martial. One soldier was condemned to be shot, but it is remitted to banishment. I write in the room adjoining to Santa Anna's, I being the Officer of the day who has charge of the prisoner and his Officers. I believe a treaty of some sort has been signed, and it is rumored that he is to have an escort home, and has requested that my Company, the Zavala Volunteers, should accompany him. The expenses of the war and Independence of Texas is granted. I shaU write by an early opportunity again, · Affectionately,

A. MarshaU
