I have taken the liberty to advance to your Excellency Mr. O'Connor a young gentleman of great promise; should he live, I have no doubt he will be an honour to whatever station he may fill. He has volunteered at a time when other men are turning away; and, notwithstanding the news is sometimes very bad, yet he has never wavPrerl. You, Sir, will be beUer ahle to judge of hi~ merits than I can, by a hurried line, describe them. The old flame of '76 lately kindles beyond the Sabine. God prosper it. I am Dr. Sir, Very Truly,

Dear Sir
Ten days have now elapsed since the Battle at this place and of the propriety of the army having at once taken up the line of march no one could have doubted for a moment. We are gaining nothing and our enemy are certainly losing nothing by our delay-There are provision at the Island which we greatly need we have prisoners here which must be transported thru we have also arms our force is not sufficient lo take care of these prisoners and arms and also march upon the enemy as we should. There are Stearn Boats al the Island whir.h might long ere this have transported the prosoners & extra arms to Galveston, and have
