Office of the commandant general of Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas.-Excellent Sir:-In charge of lieutenant colonel Don Luis Tola, and escorted by sixty infantry and thirty dragoons, I this day fonvard, subject to the orders of your Excellency, one hundred and forty thousand dollars. This officer has orders to half at Goliad, with the object of awaiting the advices that your Excellency may be pleased to send to him, regarding the continuation of his march with the money, which will arrive in very fit time, inasmuch as fourteen days at least ought to he spent in their march from this to that port, according to the day-journies of the itinerary, which I have the honor to annex, to your Excellency. The balance of the money which was deposited in the commissary's office here, still remains there, as it has been impossible lo find a sufficient number of beasts of burthen, capable of making so long a journey, and with the object, that should your Excellency see fit lo dispose of it in this place, he might have it in his power to do so. If your Excellency should adopt other measures on the subject, from that moment they shall be punctually complied with. I entreat your Excellency, to please to give orders that the escort that lieutenant colonel Tola carries for the custody of the money, may be relieved al Goliad, so that it may return to this place, where I have not a single dragoon left.
