(2912] [NATCHEZ NOTICE]

[April 28, 1836] By arrangements made between Gen. Houston of Natchez, Col. Rezin Bowie of Louisiana, and Gen. Green of Texas, in conjunction with several influential men in the upper part of the Stale, all the volunteers from Mississippi and the upper part of Louisiana, who can get ready by the 5th of May, will unite at different points on the river, and proceed together by way of Plaquemine to Harrisburg, at the head of GalvesLon Bay, in Texas. It is confidently expected that 500 to 700 men will unite-and constitute the largest force of infantry and cavalry which has ever gone to Texas from the U.S. It is not desirable that all should have arms as there is an ample supply of muskets, yagers, swords, pistols, and ammuniciton, provided at Harrisburg, sufficient for 5000 men. Col. Rezin Bowie, who is well acquainted with the route by Plaquemine, through Attakapas, and has often travelled it, thinks it far preferable to any other-it is shorter, and there is abundance of corn and provisions-which is evident that the district through which the volunteers will march, annually sends to New Orleans, from 10 to 1500 head of cattle. If the waters are high they can be headed by taking the upper route by Opelusas, which is only about 30 miles farther. [2913] [PERRY to ----------]

We have just received word at this place that General Houston and the Texians Army fought Santa Ana sometime last week M Lapham was by this way and gave us the news he said they fought somewhere near Harrisburg over by Zavalas place the Mexican Army was caught by surprise and many were killed while they slept I have talked with several others who were there they say Houston was shot during the fight I dont know how bad I hope they catch Santa Ana alive and hang him high for what he done at the Alamo and others Maybe now at least we can have peace in this land. But I have already heard that a large Mexican Army is coming up from the coast. Lapham says the batlle was very short
