To General Martin Perfecto de Cos, Dommanclanl General of the Eastern lnlernal Stales: Matamoros, 13th April, 1835. 1. Dear Sir-Your favor of the 31st ult is before us, ancl we preceed lo answer it with Lhal frankness which is characteristic both of you and ourselves. 2. We thought proper lo call your allention in our No. 20th of 19th ult., which we did accordingly, to the re-organization of the Presidia! Troops of which they stancl so much in need, for the security of the frontiers selllements against the incursions of the savages,-not because we would, even for a momenl, he led to believe that you would overlook a matter of so much importance, bul for Lhe simple reason that [illegible] does nol depend entirely upon your attributes, whilst you have nol the necessary means lo altend to Lheir wants, which [illegible] present are noted. This very reason has marked us our out duly lo call likewise the attention of the Supreme Governmenl, in an indirect manner, as il were, lo this point, with a view lo induce it to use its exertions in placing and preserving the Presicleal Troops on a footing, to enable them lo fulfil the objects of their instit.ulion. ln regard to details we are convinced of ·your zeal, and it is pleasing to us lo make il manifest 3.
