l. Sir-I received your favor of 5Lh inst. making inquiry whelher I had senl you a copy of my '·Exposition," and you suspected one had been purloined in Lhe Post Office of Lhal place which had been directed lo you. I think il prol,alile your suspicion is will founded, for I senl one lo you, one Lo the Ayunlarniento, and one lo Smilh. I now send you another copy which l hope will reach. 2. I am slill here a prisoner on hail. and can not make any calculalions when I shall be able Lo leave, though hope in all uexl month. 2. I am very happy lo hear Lhat Doctor Beales is going on prosperously wilh the selllemenl of the families he contracled wilh Lhe Slale Government, and Lhal he expecl:- Lhem oul from Ireland and Germany in a short Lime. I wish him every success in his enterprise, for it is an arduous one, ancl also will be very useful Lo the country which needs population.-Should it be in my power lo serve him in any way, I wil will cheerfully do so. i\ly respecls to Doclor Beales and also lo Powers on the Nueces, when you see them.
