Capt Hoxie Dear Sir

The inhabitants of Gonzales are moving their families from the Town. Mr l\'litchell arrived yesterday at this place. Ugartechea sent to demand the cannon now at Gonzales. They refused to give it up in consequence of which they have sent three hundred men to fetch it who are expected in Gonzales this evening. What men we can muster will attack them tomorrow morning by way of annoyance but help must be immediately sent us Now is the time to strike the blow. Send on what force you can as soon as po~ible T. All the reasons given hy my friends Mrs. Mckinney, Mrs Jack and l\'Jrs Williams, and also by Emily, against my keeping hachellors hall, I have already taken into view and a thousand more- it is a dog's life lo say Lhe least of il- But 1 am not yet a free man- I am still a slave- I must be here to finish the land husiness and lo try and systematise our political affairs otherwise we shall all go overhoard.
