Jan. 1 1835 to Sep. 30 1835 - PTR, Vol. 1

P. S. We send you a leller to our Shawanec friends, and wanL you Lo send iL to them [Addressed:] To Big Mush and Col. Bowls Cherokee Chiefs and Their people Cherokee Village By Mr. Wm Goyen [665] [DAVIS to COMMITTEE] To the Committee of Safely of Mina, and Lo J. 1-1. Moore, Rio Colorado. Gonzales, September 25th, 1835 I am directed by the Committee of ·Safety of Gonzales lo address you for the purpose of procuring immediate assistance to repel an expected attack of the enemy. The circumstances which influence us to this measure are these. A demand, al the instance of Colonel Ugarteehea, has been made for a piece of cannon, which has been in this Lown upawarcl of four years. This cannon is not needed in Bejar, for they have eighteen pieces there, all unmounted, besides those they have mounted; this piece was given us unconditionally, as we are informed, for the defence of this colony. From every circumstance, and from information, we arc jusLified in believing that this demand is only made to get a pretext to make a sudden inroad and altack upon this colony for marauding and other purposes. The Alcalde, wiLh the approbation of the people, has refused Lo dclicvcr up the cannon; and we arc satifierl that, as soon as Colonel Ugarlechea is informer! of the fact, he will immcdiaLcly send a force against this colony al least, thinking us too weak to resist him. We Lherefore earncslly request you to send what force you can collect immediately lo our assistance. You need make 110 delay about provisions, for we have plc11Ly al your ~rvicc. The time we think is most pressing, and the occasion most ur~ent. In haste, &c. By order of the Commillcc. G. W. Davis, Secn·tary
