Dear Sir,

The present t.ime is both critical, and important. Critical on account of our disorganized situation; and difficult bccaw,e our rights are invaded when we are without resourscs. The people hail your appearance in Texas al this Lime as one of the happiest events; because they believe you arc capable of managing our difficult affairs beller than we could without you. We wish you to head the present expedition against General Coss in person believing your prcsancc will be much ncaded; to unite the people, enforce obedience-, and Lo plan the movements of the troops. Believe me Sir J use no flattery with you but speak what I hdicve to he the truth in friendship. We arc all alive lo the cause of defense in this part, and will attend lo cv<'ry thing that will promote the cause we are aLout lo irnbark in.
