In my last communication I had the honor to forward you a copy and the translation of a despatch rec'd from the Secy of State for the Municipality of Gonzales. I am anxious for your advice and hope soon lo have that pleasure for my government as the transactions in the colonies may render my situation here unpleasantly. The intelligence of the action between the Steamboat and the Mexican Schooner [lorn) here on the 16th in a leller from [torn] Martin of Gonzales to his son All)ert, and it was judged expedient, after consultation with the Americans in this place to make it known to Col. Ugartichea, who listened lo it with composure, and requested the original and its translation, which, with the consent of Capt. A Martin was acceded to. We have conducted and shall continue to conduct our proceedings with these Military Authorities with all requisite frankness having experienced the benefit of it, and because such information would be sure to reach them through other sources. The Americans are still unmolested, but this situation with, no doubt, become critical by succeeding events; and they are consequently, preparing lo depart hence. I have nol yet ascertained what effect the intelligence has caused, or how it will affect the military operations. A vessel (the Veracrusano) has arrived at Copano with arlilary and warlike stores. Since my last, no more troops are come in, although it is reported they are on their way. Cos is expected hy the 22d instant. The Celebration of the 16th took place here with considerable shone; and the only two pieces of cannon serviceable were called out for the occasion, the other pieces, (say 18) heing in want of carriages. A Governor has been appointed by the president, considered to be unconstilutionly so; his name, D Rafael Murquis, a confirm of D. Ramon, the ex= vice Governor. I am in doubt
