Mina, Sepl. 15, 1835.
My Dear Sir:
We did not receive your tellers unlil ycslerday, owing lo Lhe very high waler in lhe Colorado and hackwaler in Lhe creeks, il was impossible lo gel lo Town withoul swimming and Capl. Caldwell lefl Lhe letlcrs, horses, &c al Col. Andrews from whence Lhe lellers were forwarded lo me. As soon as Lhe waler will permit I shall go down wilh Smilh and bring up lhe horses, mules, &c. The volunteers had come in from the campaign a fcw days before, a large number of lhcm were sliU in Town, who logether wilh the citizens assembled and heard your lellcr read. The committee came together afternoon and appointed Samuel Wolfenberger lo meet you al San Felipe. From your lellcr 1 concluded that lhe principal ohjecl of sending a person was for Lhc purpose of consulting and etc. J lhereforc proposed a resolution aulhorizing Mr. W. to act with the other delegates if called on, but Williamson nosed lhe commillee about just as he pleased and passed lhe resolulion which you wiU find in .McGehees lelter. Had my resolulion passed J should have proposed to associale you with Wolfenberger. McGehees leller is nol whal il oughl to be nor what lhe resolution of the commillee called for bul he would write ii himself. J hope, in fact it is absolutely necessary that you should relurn as soon as possible, or I fear that the people of the municipality will soon be as much divided and distracted as any in Texas. There is a disposition among the majority here to do what is right, but for wanl of some one of sufficient firmness and lalents to "go ahead" Williamson browbeals them into his views. Mr. Wallace can explain to you fully our situalion here. J intended before this lo have procured a copy of all the proceedings in Court against you but have been unable as yet. Gazley is not in Town or I would gel it Lhis clay. I have not the means of giving you the dates of l'ithcr suit. Mrs. Alcxandl'rs account is for sundry articles from the store, making tl'nt, 35 dollars loaned lo Lyman & board for workmen &c. The Judgrnt'lll rendered in her favor was for 64 dollars a11d some cents, no cxecu lion has yet been issued. Bunions demand is for l00 dollar~
