Dear Sir:

Your kind favor of the 25th of last month came to hand two days ago, and I was much gratified to find that you had time lo write so long a letter for I do assure you that when I wrote the little scrap enclosed in another letter directed to you, that I was and had been for some days before as closely engaged as ever I was in my life. Col. Ugartechea in crossing a carriage over the Rio Merlene had it by accident broken entirely up, that is, the body and cover. The cover was lost entirely so that was Lo be repaired to bring on his Lady. The two wagons was crossed over the river and several mile loads of goods so there they were, wagons, goods, mules, and all waiting until the carriage could be repaired to go on, during which time I did not rest myself and a good reason for it I was lo be well paid for my work. I have not wrillen to you as often as I should of done on the account of the times, which agreeable to my weak idea has looked for sometime past rather dark and mysterious. You no doubt ere this have seen a communication from the Secretary of War & Navy departments. This I fear is intended for one thing and the vail is between us and what is meant. But you are more
