My dear Sir:
I am without any of your favors to acknowledge at this
time.
As some of our former carrespondence has been on the subject of the political situation of the Colony, I have thought you would not look upon it as irrivilant or-improper to say some things to you on the subject. It cannot be denied that the first interruption of Public tranquility commenced in Monclova. The demand of Govr. Viesca for troops to be sent form this Colony and the flaming articles, were the first to disturb the publiclranquility. It was also circulated - and believed by many that troops were to be sent here to drive out all the Colonist that they were lo have arrested from them by an infuriated soldiery their all. The earning of many years labour, Toil and depriviations. It will not I think be difficult for you to conceive th1! alarm and dismay which the information produced. Still Lhere was a rcspcclahle body of people that could not believe an act so impolite on the part of the Government and so unjust the selllcr could not l,e inflicted on a people who had undergone so much suffering to subdue a wilderness country.
