Enclosed you have proofs beyond doubt of what we may expect from those Goths. All that I am sorry for is that these last Troops should have been permitted to reach Bexar as it will cost more trouble than it would otherwise. But superior valor & our just cause will overcome all this if taken in time and one thing is certain that the people of Bexar are in our favor I am afraid that some of them will he badly used before assistance can be given them all the officers of the custom house of Matamoros are in the calahouse if any defence is to be made let us do it in Gods name let be at once or take the road to U.S. land it will be impossible to live under those Cutthroats This Col.* is the one that gave the order for the shooting of Garret [?] I am sorry to say that the well disposed Mexicans have lost much of their faith in the Americans they say that it is nearly
