To the citizens of the Dr.part 111t'11l of Urazos:- Fellow citizens:

The committee of lhe jurisdiction of Columbia in co11ju11ction with Lhc commillP-e of San Felipe have thought proper lo address and lay before you a part of the information now in their possession wilh a view of quieting all alarm that may exist in regard lo the descent of the Federal Troops upon Texas. The official communication from the Committee of safety al Gonzales lo the commillee of safctv of ~lina co11tai11s information ., that can be relied 011. Mr. Gritton, the gentleman mentioned in that communication is the same person who visited Texas in company with Col. Almonte. The teller of Judge Chambers confirms the slalemenls of i\lr. Grillon and in the estimation of the committee can be confidently relied 011. We therefore take great pleasure in informing our fellow citizens that we believe there is no just cause of immediate alarm, and al the same time of assuring them that they have the most sanguine hopes that they present commotion will be quieted, and good order restored without any collision with the federal troops. They pledge themselves lo the Public that their exertions will be earnest and unremitting lo effect this much lo be desired end. In a few days they will be joined by committees from other parts of this department, al which time they will make a full exposition of lhe affairs of Texas, and recommend such a course as they will deem best calculaled lo promote lhe general good; In the meantime we recommend lo our fellow citi;,,,ens, peace, union, moderation and a strict adherence lo the laws and constitution of the land and in conclusion we subscrihe ourselves your friends and fellow citizens.
