Ayuntamienlo of the Jurisdiction of Columbia To the of the meeting in San Felipe on the 14th of July, 1835: The Ayuntamiento of Columbia has thought proper lo address you this communication and lo send you five confidential citizens (viz., John A. Wharton, Sterling McNeel, James F. Perry, Josiah H. Bell, and James Knight) lo represent this Jurisdiction and lo confer with you touching the matters of public concern, which no agitate the country, confidently hoping that your united efforts will devise some plan lo secure lo this (thus far) ill-fated country the substantial benefits of peace, law, and government. This Ayantamiento would represent to you that the citizens of this Jurisdiction hold themselves to be true, faithful, loyal, and unoffending Mexican citizens; that they do not violate the laws and constitution of the land, nor will they countenance others in doing it. This Ayuntamiento can see no end to present commotion until the people of Texas are consulted in General meeting, which said meeting they earnestly recommend lo be called without further cause of delay. They believe from recent events and from the many false rumors that have abused the ears of the Mexicans authorities that there is a great clanger of the citizens of Texas being brought into conflict with the Federal Troops of Mexico, an event which they view with feelings but little short of horror. They believe it highly necessary, in o~cler to secure the peace, that a deputation should be sent to the l\'lcxican authorities, bearing communications from the people of Texas, and lo make every honorable effort lo secure peace. They are willing to raise their part of the funds to defray the expenses of the deputation; and in conclusion tender you their most hearty co-operation in support of measures calculated lo promote the public weal. All of which is respectfully submitted for your consideration, hy this body. God and Liberty. Asa Brigham, President of the Ayuntamiento. W. H. Sledge, Secretary.
