[371) [UGARTECHEA to COS]
Bexar, July 13, 1835. With a great deal of pain I see myself obliged to remit lo you the enclosed teller, which at this moment, 5 o'clock in the afternoon, I have just received from Don Edward Gritten al Villa de Gonzales. It comfirms in an indubitable manner that the detachment of Anahuac was invaded by an considerable force of malcontents of San Felipe. Such an event and the others whose details I stale in the act which I directed to you by an extraordinary this morning show the disaffection and discontent with which those wicked ones look al the Nation. They deserve lo he made and example of, and this I am determined by all means to do; counting on the help of the General Commandancy lo be able to punish acts so scandalous and to repulse force by force. It is necessary to mount the companies of Alamo, Bexar, and La Bahia * * * and in the same condition are the troops of New Leon. Besides the baualion of Morelos, al least one thousand men more will he necessary, and if I do not get them, I shall only be able with the force already mentioned to defend the city and to resist to the last in case I should he atlacked, which is lo he expected, since the colonist are encouraged by their success al Anahuac and have already a considerable force at this Lime, which I bring lo you considcratic;m, etc. P. S. I have just sent to arrest the spy who has been denounced to me, coming from San Felipe, and I shall send you his declaration by the mex l post.
