San Felipe, July 3d, 1835 Chieftancy of the Department of Brazos

Gentlemen:-

! have the honor lo acknowledge the receipt of your communication of to day, and I am happy to say, that all the recommendations, you have been pleased to submit has met with my enlire and cordial approbalion, except the first, in which you suggest the propriety of opening a correspondence with the Commandant General Cos and Col. Ugarlechea. This however I shall <lo, if upon particular inquiry, I shall ascertain, thal the feelings and opinions of the majority of the people of this Deparlmenl accord with your recommendation, and I have taken already every necessary slep lo acquire this information. 1 have taken measures to organize the militia of this Department in the shortest possible lime, and have disposed, that prompt and decisive steps be taken to defend the frontier from the depreciations of the savage Indians. Gentlemen accept the assurance of my high consideration, &c.
