Chieftancy or the Department of Brazos

The public safety requires that some measure should immediately be taken to maintain a friendly relation with the northern Indians within Texas, especially when our frontier is now suffering by the incursions of wandering tribes of the Colorado & Brazos. The Ayuntamiento being now destitute of municipal funds, and consequently unable to send a m<~ssengcr among them. You will therefore apply two hundred dollars of the money of the State in your hands lo carry into <~ffect the aforesaid object.
