Extract from a letter to Dr. Miller of Gonzales, from Judge Chambers: I understand that copies of a letter wrillcn by Carabajal arc circulating in your neighborhood, in which he slates, among other things, that the general government has decreed the confiscation of the lands of the colonists, and their explusion from the country, with a view to alarm and excite them to rise airainst lhc general government. J take this early opportunity of informing you that such statements are utterly groundless anrl false in fact, and that from the best information I have been able to acquire, nothing unfriendly is intended against lhc people in general by the fcclcral government.- Do not imagine for a moment oy what J say, that I have joined what is called the military party, or indeed any other party.
