Al a very large and rcspeclahle meeting of the citizens of the jurisdiclio11s of Columbia. on lhe 28th day of June, 1835, held in pursanance of a pn•.vious call, for the purpose of considering the present situation of lhe country, and determining upon the course of conducl fur the people of Lhis jurisdiction Lo pursue, in Lhe presenl and approaching crisis - Col. W. D. C. Hall was called Lo Lhc chair and Byrd B. Waller elected secretary. The leller of the Political Chief of this department together with a number of documents throwing light upon the real situation of the country, having been read lo the meeting, i\lcssrs. John A. Wharton, W. D. C. Hall, H. Smith. J. F. Perry, j. W. Bell, S. Whiling, G. B. McKinstry, W. C. While, P. B. ~h:Ncel, F. Dingham, J. E. Phelps, Edwin Waller, E. Andrews, J. P. Caldwell and E. G. Head, were unanimously chosen to prepare a report and resolution to be submillcd for the consideration of this meeting. The commillee relired, but shortly returned with the following reporl and resolutions which were unanimously aclopted:- To the citizens of Lhc jurisdiction of Columbia: - Your committee having given the subject on which they were lo reporl, as lhorough an investigation as time and circumstances will permit, beg leave to present the following reporl: Your commillee view with the deepest regret, and greatest alarm the present political situation of Texas, and recommend to this meeting, and their fellow citizens generally, union, moderation, organization and a strict adherence lo the laws and constilu Lion of the land. Your committee protest against the conducl and acts of any act of individuals (less than a majority) calculated Lo involve the citizens of Texas in a conflid with tlw Federal Government of Mexico, and particularly prolt'sl against the proceedings of those persons at Anahuac who gave the collector of customs, Don Jose Gonzales, a series of rt'solutions declaring that they would nol obey the revenue laws of i\lcxico. The denounce said persons as foreigners, and disclaim all parlicipation in the act whatsoover.
