[i\lCNEEL lo PERRY]

Wednesday Evening, [ca. June 22, 1835]

Dr. Perry,

I have but just arrived from San Felipe and would have come over but am exceedingly fatigued. Our country is again as- sailed by aspirants and speculators, they are attempting lo deceive the people by preaching to them of the dangers that await us al San Felipe. it was got up for the purpose of sustaining the ~lammoulh Speculation. But thank God it has not had the effect ii was expected. the people I hope will not suffer themselves lo he thus imposed upon. They are now attempting to raise men to go and release the Governor as he is necessary lo them and bring him lo Texas. They talk of nothing hut declaring Ourselves Independent of Granting letters of i\larque and reprisal and all such nonsense We must attend lo them they must and will he put down. Nothing has been heard of Col. Austin lately that they may do him much Injury I am sorely afraid But on the present Occasion nothing can come in competition with their Interest- and self aggrandizement. those al the hearl of the list al San Felipe is Sam!. i\l Williams Frank Johnson Baker al Columbia. Doct. Archer, John A Wharton and lo my great astonishment, Wm. H Jack J. G. l\'lcNeel IAudressed:I i\lr. J. F. Perry-
