[804] [COLEMAN to WOLFENBARGER AND BARRETT]
Mina 10th October 1835
~lessrs Wolfenbarger & Barrett
Williamson has arrived here, and has informed me that the diferent municipalities have agreed lo send seven members to the Convention in lieu of five, Mr. Williamson has taken the vote of the boys here which he expects to have counted, this is unjust, it is irreasonable. Could the remaining candidates have been here there would have been more reason in such a procedure, but Gentlemen the [illegible] for holding the Election has passed before the vote here was taken Williamson, was before the people, he got but few votes, being exceedingly anxious to get a seat in the Convention he seeks an unreasonable advantage, of his fellow candidates, which I hope wiIJ not be countenanced by you, the votes taken herre are illegal first, because the day for holding the Election had passed, secondly because the votes were taken out of the municipality, thirdly because, the Teller was Dr. Garzly a known Rascal & consequently not be relied on I hope Gentlemen you will pursue a consistant course in this matter, you have citizens whose rights would be prejudiced by receiving the illegal votes here taken in selecting your numbers you will as well to choose the seven persons, who did or on the day of the Election receive the highest votes, this wilJ give general satisfaction to all, I will conclude by inserting that no considera- tions whatever may induce you to wander from the path of rectitude do not even wink at what is unfair- I am Gentlemen your &c. R. M. Coleman [Addressed:] Messrs. Wolfenbarger & Barrett Mina
