To the Permanent Counsel of Texas Gentlm
In obedience to your Orders relative to the Ranging expedition between the Brazos and Colorado Rivers, I on the 1st day of Novr procured 16 men who assembled at this place and proceeded to elect their officers whereupon I was duly elected the Captain of said Company and we proceeded immediately to the Whaco village and from thence have performed One trip across to the Colorado and back again without meeting with any Indians, On this morning 6 more persons from the United States of the North have added their names to the list of Rangers under my charge, from the activity and Courage of the Company I anticipate great benefit ,vill result from the expedition.

Having received your Communication appointing me Con· tractor for the Rangers between the Colorado and Brazos Rivers I find and deem it necessary to draw on your for the 1st months pay for 16 men and also the necessary expenses for carrying your views and operations into effect, relative to this Ranging expedition, nothing but the force of circumstances would at this time induce me to call on you, but if I should fail to do it, the laudable and patriotic motives of the Convention in establishing the Ranging Company in this section must be entirely defeated, Enclosed I send you the bill of particulars and amount which is absolutely necessary for me to have, which I hope you will do me the favour to send me pr J L Hood Esqr
