At a meeting of the Cilizens of Sabine Dislrict, according to appointment al their adjournment 14 Nov the members of the Commi llee present being James Gaines Esq Abs Hyers D. J. Robenson Elbert Hine AW Caufield Whereas on the 14 insl this committee made arrangements to start a company of volunteers from this place on this day for that purpose. three of the citizens were appointed for to carry it inlo effect-Who report severaly-that as a number of the citizens have already in different parties left the district & difficulties interfered which have prevented gelling a sufficient number of men lo form a respectable company- Thereupon on motion of A W Caufield-it was Resolved that it be advisable to postpone the departure of sd

company till Thursday 26 Nov-

To Sam Houston, Esquire:

In the name of the people of Texas, free and sovereign: We, reposing special trust and confidence in your patriotism, valor, conduct and fidelity, do by these presents constitute and appoint you to be major-general and commander-in-chief of the armies of Texas and of all the forces now raised or to be raised by it, and of all others who shall voluntarily offer their services and join the army, for the defense of the constitution and liberty, and for repelling every hostile invasion thereof; and you are hereby vested with full power and authority lo act as you shall think best for the good and welfare of the service.
