Gov. Henry Smith-31 voles. S.F. Austin 22 votes for same. Lieut. Gov. James W. Robinson-no oposition Major Gen. & Comder. in chief of the regular Army. Sarni. Houston no oposition S.F. Austin Wm H. Wharton Commissioners to repare to the U.S. B.T. Archer Mills, Burnet, & A. Huston, were run for the same. A Gen. or legislative council composed of one member of the present delegation from each municipality, cloalhed with ample legislative power,-They will have power to raise & officer a regular army of 1120 men rank & file-which will be done immediately-if you wish any appointment in the same let me know soon & I will give you any aid in my power, and also write to Rev. Paul. Parker. as he is the member elect in the Council from Nacogdoches. I will be the president of the Council & will have no vote but in case of a tie, but will with much pleasure give any influance I may have. please say what office you wa:11 & also if that cannot be had, how low in rank you will be willing to accept- · · The Army of the people now in the field will be requested • to choose their own officers, & Gen. Houston will not be authorized lo command them, unless it is their wish freely expressed. let me know your views,& that of the army on this & any other subject you may think proper. Rest assured that the Army now in the field shall be supported by me, to the utmost of my abilities-We have sent to New Orleans for 2 long 18 pound cannon, ball, powder & one 12 inch mortar bombr. which may looked for in one month at least-be firm and pacient and a crown of laurels must decorate the brow of every warrior in the camp. in future times it will be said, pointing, to the heroes "he was at the taking of San Antonio, a distinction far superior to the order of the star or garter, or any other order, that can be conferred by King, Prince, or Potentate. 350 men are said to ~e on t_hcir way from the U.S. between Nacogdoches & Brazos, with 2 six pound cannon, ball, &c, &c.-Kecp you~ position ~cfore the place, & do not fall back to Gonzales, or Goliad, unless m your judgment such a measure is the only means of preventing the disbanding of the
