the cotton, part of which is injured badly-She will again set out in verry few days & cruise from .Matagorda to this place until she is taken, or until we are better provided for. The Sehr. Wm Robins will probably be with her. I left to fulfil my promise to Mr. Royall President of the Council & will now promptly attend to it. I see from a letter which I have from him since I left here, that some money is wanted in camp, you can draw on us for 5 or 600$ at a time until we can make arrangements for getting funds from the United States. Money is so scarce in the country that I am afraid to have you draw on us for much at a time, lest we should not be able to meet your Bills- I presume you are in possession ere this, of an extract of a letter from my partner to me, in which he seems to entertain no doubt of men & money being obtained for Texas. I regret that William Gay had not reached Matagorda Bay before I left, presume however he will have no difficulty in getting the large gun. I missed him on the road, The Montazuma, if her it be, at least, the Mexican armed vessel which infests our coasts, is off this evening, we exchanged several shots with her from the San Fellipc when she lay on the beach, last thursday morning, and all are of opinion one of our halls entered her. her guns could not reach us, and she would not venture to come any nearer, but put out to sea. I enclose you a letter from Genl. Mexia, which will give you some information as lo what he is doing in the cause for which we are all contending. Yours verry respectfully Thomas F McKinney I will endeavor to get our Boilers protected with cotton bal~s, & if the vessell is still off, will endeavor to get our neighbots to turn.out & take her with the Steam boat. Yrs &c. Thos. F McKinney
