Genl. Austin Commanding the Federal Army of Texas Sir
1L may not be proper for me to trouble you at this time by adding to your mulliplied concerns. I have just returned from the astacamcnlo de Le Panticlan, which place I had the honour to assist l in J reducing the particulars of which will or has been rellaLcd] to you. we had the pleasure escorting lo this place our Governor, with his secretary and a Coln Gonzales with 20 Mexican Troops and I am sorry to Say was not received by the Comander of this place as he should have done. this act together with his other acts of tireney is calculated to injure our cause the particulars I refer you to Mr Grant and would most humbley advise to have him removed as he is lo personal and a great enimey of the Mexicans and not al all calculated for a commander of Volunteers as respects the convention members has hen elected from San Patricio and onley waite to know when the convention is lo present them selves to gether with those of the Mission I do not think that aney will be sent from this place as their are but about 20 persons belonging to the town here [atJ the pret the people are afraid to come as they do not want lo be made hewers of wood and Drawers of water. I have only reached home late this evenin~ from the San Felipe. I am happy lo say that l left her in a situation, from whi\'h the captain entertained 110 doubt of gcttin~ her off, and l have no doubt she is al this time afloat in Mata~orda Bay uninjurf'd exct.·pl
