forthwilh, for prosecution, any violation of the act of the 20th April, J 818, entitled "An act in addition lo an act for the punishment of certain crimes against the United Stales, and to repeal the acts therein mentioned." I will, in all respects, bestow the utmost allenlion on "all movements in this district which may in anywise tend Lo sustain the obligations of the Government, and more especially of that wl1ich requires that we should abstain, under every temptation, from intermeddling with the domestic dissensions of other nations."

Dear Sir
Your two letters dated one from the Labaca and the other from Washington I have duly received I perceive with great pleasure that you have got this far without accident and that you are all in good spirits. We have been on our part very busily engaged in doing here all we could for your relief and reinforcement, we have just lo day compleated the equipment for horses for Sh (?J men which have· arrived here from N. Orleans on fool, they are all in uniform and will start to morrow, another company from San Augustin 35 strong has arrived this morning and starts in this afternoon; but the best news we got this morning is the arrival of 600 teniseens all well mounted and having along 2. 18 pounders They are expected lo be at San Augustin to day and will proceed as fast as possible, another compy is expected from the bayou in a couple of days, as for the Mexicans of this place, we have not been able lo induce them to start, notwithstanding I had a meeting of them l'alled, in which I red them an adress inviting them lo join in the common cause, the most wealthy of them have however furnished horses and money for the equipmt. of the N. Orleans company, and in order to have some benefit of them I have ordered a permanent guard of 25 men of them, for the protection of the families and properties of those who arc absent, and keep up the order al home. By all I can heare we will be over run with men from the U.S., and shall have more than there will be any use for, for
