The committee would respectfully express their hope that all personal prejudices, that have heretofore existed among us, will be altogether rc'pudiated, and that a universal feeling of harmony and of confidence will pervade the country. The committee would further tTespass on your indulgence, by suggesting for themselves & in behalf of their fellow citizens of the municipality, that a premature declaration of independence, would be inexpedient and injurious That a temporal provisional organization of the country, and a careful attention to the development of events, would be the wisest policy-Whal is unavoidable in politicks, is always Justifiable, but a precipetous cecession from Mexico, might incur the reprehension, and wean from us the sympathies of many friends in the north. Enclosed you have a copy of a letter recd from a very confidential friend of ours in Tampico by the Sehr Louisiana just arrived from New Orleans with 30 Volunteers from Mobile where $2000, had been subscribed for the assistance of Texas & from every person we have spoken to we learn that the people of the United States are only waiting for a declaration of Independence to flock here in great numbers lo our assistance You have no doubt heard of the loss of Sehr San Felipe, her cargo is saved in good order, vessel total wreck. Mr McKinney is still in i\'latagorda fitting up another vessel lo go after the Montezuma, which he has reason to believe is not the above vessel, but a Sehr eallccl the "Crawford" as by information recd per the Louisiana the t\fontczuma was in
