(2336) [COLLINSWORTH to CONVENTION)
The chairman of the committee of finance begs leave to Submit the following report. Several propositions have been made by capitalists for the purpose of enabling Texas to maintain her Independence. But the chairman of this committee, solemnly impressed with the impor- tance of a speedy close of the present session of this convention has been actuated by a regard more to energy & dispatch (at this time so much to be desired) than to the particular Economy of the diferent transactions properly coming before the Treasury depart- ment. The chairman of this committee some days since made a report upon certain matters of finance, which he has not called up because from various expressions of opinion he believed it would not be concurred in. Propositions have been made by different Individuals to aid this Infant government in its present struggles for liberty, but to report them all to the convention and discuss their relative merits is a task which the Chairman of this Committee is free to confess he has neither time nor Information to justify his final action on the subject. But he believes that Messrs. T. F. McKinny of the firm of McKinny & Williams is largely in advance to the government of Texa:; and without undertaking to audit their amounts, which at this time could not probably be done with that deliberation in justice due both to them & the government, the chairman of this committee would recommend it to the authorities hereafter to be appointed to relieve said firm so far as in their power & consistent with public safcty, when the means of doing so shall be made
