[2773] [OGILVIE to MORGAN]

Brig Pocket April 15th 1836

Sir

it is with extreme regret I inform you that I have received positive orders from the secretary of the navy not to permit any of the sails rigging or any of the appurtenances necessary for the navigation of the vessel to be removed from on board, as regards the men you have sent there are now on board but those who were sent to act as marines and guard the prisoners, the reasons assigned by Col Potter, were that if the enemy should attack the post from the land and the sails of this vessel not on shore were defeated, and if on board could be bent immediately and sail made on the vessel and run her to sea, with this explanation.

I remain your obt servt Leut W. G. Ogilvie
