Dear Sir
I lake a few moments from the hurry [of] business to address a line to you. Everything looks well thro[ughout the) United States, the Government are in your favor, the people perf[ ectly J enthusiastic, Volunteers are going on in large numbers, at least 1300 are now on the way r.ommanded by the best kind of officers. Gen. Felix Houston & Gen Foot among the number, keep up a good heart all will yet go well, the Commissions have the offer of a million of Dollars Loan in N. York, I think the late news will not affect it & that it will be made, if so the course is certain. We have 110 present funds but are still maintaining the public credit & forwarding men on private credit & public subscription, we have had much to contend with, McKinney is against us also Williams, apparently subing this agency. When you can you must say a good word for us. Col Barrell is here & delivered your letter his health is improving.

To Major Samuel Ellis Dear Sir
You are hereby ordered and required to remain in New Orleans for the purpose of receiving recruits of emigrants who are going to Texas, and also provide vessels and passage for the same, and anything necessary for their comfort. In aid and furthera!1ce ~f this order you arc directed to call upon th_e Texas Agen~y m this city for supplies &c which they are hereby directed to furms~. Given under my sign this the fifteenth day of April A. D. 1836 and the first of our Independence.
